Introduction to the art of weaving
This workshop is designed for those wishing to discover the world of hand weaving. Over the course of the day, we will explore natural fibres, the basic techniques of weaving and the history surrounding this ancient craft.
Participants will be introduced to a professional textile workshop, with looms of different types and sizes, each intended for specific uses. Each person will create their own woven piece on an individual frame loom.
The workshop combines history, technique and hands-on experience.
We will begin with an introduction to natural fibres, their origins and qualities, followed by the fundamentals of weaving: warp, weft and the most common weave structures. Participants will learn how to prepare a warp and begin weaving on individual frame looms. They will practise the basic technique, learning how to create rhythm, structure and tension in the fabric, while experimenting with yarns of different thicknesses and textures.
